Choosing Consciously.

We understand that change in human behavior takes time and effort. We know that systemic changes to existing systems can alleviate the incremental cognitive burden on individual decision making. We want to support businesses that want to make this positive environmental change but are limited in their ability due to a lack of affordable options.

We understand that bioplastics are not the end goal; they hold the potential to create new, unwanted problems. But we know that pressing for this change is disruptive to a system that deserves to be disrupted, and it pushes the needle toward a world where oil companies no longer have a place at the table of American production and innovation. We believe in our ability to create a new conversation where everyone understands the road ahead is a long one full of research, experimentation, and vision.

By pledging the cost difference between what a coffee shop pays for a plastic cup with some other alternative, whether a rewards system for patrons to use their own cups or a plastic-free cup, we created this project to disrupt the status quo.

Kind to ourselves

Supporting individuals' choices to make small, positive changes in their daily habits - starting with their morning cup of coffee - is a win-win for everyone.

Kind to each other

We believe in supporting our innovative neighbors who invent better plastic alternatives and lend support to coffee shops that want to make a difference with the cups they choose. By raising local awareness about these changes, we hope to develop an effective dialogue.

Kind to the earth

Plastic never disappears, and it ends up in places it shouldn't. By divesting in products created by the fossil fuel industry, we're taking a stand against systems that don't work for our global community.

Every dollar raised goes to replacing plastic cups with a cleaner alternative.

Your donation is effective, simple, and makes an immediate impact.

Want to contribute?

Just a few cents will help a local coffee shop serve an iced latte in a compostable cup.  $100 will keep plastic out of a coffee shop for an entire day of cold summer beverages. With one dollar, we can cover the cost difference of replacing 16 plastic cups with biodegradable ones. For every dollar donated to the Million Cup Project, we pledge to replace 16 cups in NYC coffee shops.
